Biography
Carl Brookins graduated from Murray High School in Saint Paul. He acquired a B.A. degree in
the liberal arts from the University of Minnesota with concentrations in history,
humanities, journalism and art. He was a producer/director at the Twin Cities public
television, station, KTCA-TV, for seven years and later as Program Director and General
Manager of public television station KFME in Fargo, North Dakota.
In 1971 an innovative new college was being established in St. Paul to cater to working
adults. Brookins joined Metropolitan State University, in 1974 where he held positions on
the faculty and as an admissions counselor until his retirement in 1998.
He has worked as a free-lance photographer, and as a producer, executive and on-camera
performer for St. Paul public cable television. He currently is a freelance mystery
reviewer for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press and various Internet sites. Brookins leads the
Har Mar Barnes and Noble mystery readers group. He is a member of Sisters In Crime. He and
wife Jean have two adult daughters, Shannon and Elissa. His hobbies include sailing,
reading, and photography.
